The Environment and Energy Correspondent of “The Asahi Shimbun” visited Bangladesh
May 22, 2016 – Mr. Ishii Toru, senior staff writer, environment and energy correspondent, of the daily ‘The Asahi Shimbun’ of Japan has visited Bangladesh under the IROP program of GCC through May 15-22, 2016. Mr. Toru’s main purpose of the visit was to learn about the current and future prospect of environment and renewable energy condition of Bangladesh. On the first day, Ms. Nazneen Sultana (Managing Director, GC) and Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam Maruf (Director, GCC) welcomed him to Global Communication Center (GCC) of Grameen Communications (GC) at our Dhaka office. In the introductory meeting, he was briefed on the background, history and progress of the GCC projects activities. Later he attended a demonstration session of GramHealth: Portable Health Clinic (PHC) system where he showed his keen interest. In the next few days he visited the Institute of Renewable Energy (IRE) of the University of Dhaka, office of the Energy & Power editor, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and Grameen Shakti (GS).
Mr. Ishii also visited Kushtia for field visit and on the way he visited some beneficiary houses that use SHS of GS and a solar irrigation plant, took interviews of the concerns. In the village of Kushtia he also observed the GramHealth service and social goods delivery service provided by the GramCar: Social Services on Wheels projects of GCC at Bheramara, Kushtia.
