GramClean Project has been Inaugurated in Chhaygaon
November 26, 2016 – The GramClean project has been kicked off in Chhaygaon union under Shariatpur district. This project is developed jointly by Global Communication Center (GCC) and JEPLAN Incorporation of Japan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chhaygaon Union Parishad chairman and other representatives, teachers and students of the educational institutes and local communities. From Grameen side, Dr. Rafiqul Islam Maruf (Director, GCC) and other representatives also attended. The slogan of this program is “GramClean: Towards a Waste Free Village Development”. Under this project, a massive awareness building program has been conducted involving all villagers to educate about the garbage segregation and management. This awareness program covers 3 specific segments namely (1) young students in all educational institute of the union, (2) all village women who manage the kitchen garbage and (3) shopkeepers and general publics in bazaar and streets. This program distributed colorful classified garbage bins to all educational institutes, non-composting garbage bins to every household and common garbage bins in the streets. The project also trains all village women how to manage kitchen raw waste and produce compost from it. For the students, this program offers a set of good quality notebook and pen when they deposit a damaged mobile phone to their respective institute to encourage them in e-waste management. After 6 months pilot operation, this program is expected to run as sustainable business model.
