Japanese Journalist from “The Asahi Shimbun” Visited Bangladesh
April 5, 2019- Mr. Takuya Asakura, Staff Writer from renowned Japanese Newspaper ‘The Asahi Shimbun’ visited Bangladesh from January 31- February 7, 2019. The purpose of the visit was to observe the regions which are mostly affected by the impact of climate change; more specifically how Bangladesh has been facing the antagonistic effect of climatic change. Based on this visit, Mr. Asakura investigated the reality that climatic change has been an undeniable fact in Bangladesh. Another objective of this visit was to seek potential business investment opportunity for the climatic induced people what is the fundamental need but unfortunately still beyond focus. Mr. Md. Rajib Chowdhury, Senior Business Development and Operations Manager from Global Communication Center (GCC) assisted him during the visit.
Throughout the visit, Mr. Asakura visited Majherchar (an isolated island); located in Barguna Sadar Upazila under Barguna district and Tala Upazila of Satkhira district. PLAN-International and BRAC extended their cooperation to next level and allowed the team to meet with climate affected local people in Barguna & Satkhira respectively.
Moreover, two fruitful interview sessions had been organized by GCC for Mr. Asakura. The first one was with Dr. A. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) and the other one was with Dr. Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus of BRAC University and pioneering expert of water resource management and climate change in Bangladesh.
According to Mr. Asakura, it was a fruitful visit indeed in terms of the purpose of visit. End of this visit, he conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the team of GCC for their sincere cooperation to make it happen everything according to the objective.
