Portable Health Clinic (PHC) is a part of GramHealth project, which is jointly conducted by Medical Information Centre of Kyushu University, Japan and Global Communication Center (GCC) of Grameen Communications, Bangladesh. The mission of the PHC project is “Building an affordable, usable and sustainable preventive healthcare system for unreached people”
Portable Health Clinic is a form of clinic which has the advantages of mobility which allows it to be taken to any place like villages, offices, factories and others. Initially a health check-up booth (Fig. 1) was developed to collect, monitor and analyze the health status of any individual in remote areas of Bangladesh. Now the different medical and telecommunication equipment of the check-up booth are packed up in a briefcase to carry out the medical check-up services and this is called Portable Health Clinic (PHC). There will be a Medical Assistant with a PHC system who will provide the services. Using various sensor equipment, data is collected to the system server (Sensor Data Server) through Internet. A group of doctors has been stationed at a call center who provide consultation with audio/video conference to the attendants if required. The health data collected to the server is also shared with the patients as a health check-up report. The data is stored in the server which acts as an archive for all the records of the patients and can be used for future follow-ups.
