GCMP Team Visits GCC’s Ekhlaspur Site

Sept 24, 2017 – A team from Waseda University and Global Change Makers Program (GCMP), Japan has recently visited Bangladesh under the GramClean project of GCC. The visit that took place from Sept 17 to Sept 21, 2017 included a visit to the pilot site of GramClean program in Ekhlaspur, Chandpur and meeting with GCC members. The team consisted of Ms. Haruko Noguchi (Professor, Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University), Mr. Daichi Usui (President, GCMP) and Ms. Saki Hayakawa (Member, GCMP).

On the first day of their visit, the team had a meeting with GCC staffs on various aspects of GramClean waste-management model in rural sites. The team then moved to Ekhlaspur Union of Chandpur district on the next day to see the ongoing activities of GramClean project, which included visits to the local schools, market, health center, union office and households as the major sources of waste-generation. The team also visited Ekhlaspur High School and 68 Pashchim Ekhlaspur Govt. Primary School in which they had discussion with the teachers and an interactive session with the students to know the latter’s opinions and ideas about GramClean.

Two meetings- one with the Secretary of the market committee of Ekhlaspur bazaar and another with the Secretary of Union, District Commission, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development were held to find better ways to ensure improved participation of the shopkeepers in GramClean. A Focus Group Discussion was conducted with the participation of some villagers from the project area to gain insight about their thoughts and suggestions about GramClean for future improvement. The team also observed the Endline Survey program held in Ekhlaspur and Jahirabad unions. On the final day, a wrap-up meeting was held at GCC to discuss the feedbacks gathered from visiting village site and to seek ways to incorporate those in GramClean in future.
